Who Are We?

Our Director and Founder, Amber Roberts (nee Van Lit), is an experienced senior physiotherapist with a passion for improving movement, function and quality of life in clients with neurological and vestibular disorders.

After graduating from the University of Otago in 2003 Amber worked at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland before taking up a role as a senior physiotherapist at the Auckland Spinal Rehabilitation Unit, working with clients with spinal cord injury and paralysis. While at the Spinal Unit Amber completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Health Science, majoring in Rehabilitation, led a number of service development initiatives, was involved in international spinal cord injury research and published a paper in the New Zealand Journal of Physiotherapy “A Narrative Review of Hope After Spinal Cord Injury: Implications for Physiotherapists”.

In 2017 Amber made the decision to relocate her young family to the beautiful beach side town of Whangamata in the Coromandel.  Since then she has been working as a community neurological physiotherapist, primarily with clients with spinal cord injury, concussion and traumatic brain injury. While undertaking this work she developed a special interest in the management of vestibular disorders and vertigo/dizziness and she has subsequently undertaken further advanced training in vestibular rehabilitation.

Amber’s experience of having a family member develop Parkinson’s Disease also led her down the pathway of advancing her knowledge in the physiotherapy management of Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders. She is a PD Warrior Certified Instructor.

Seeing how difficult it could be for people in our local community to access quality neurological and vestibular rehabilitation, Amber created Neuro Optimise Physiotherapy to provide clients with effective, individualised and evidence based therapy without needing to travel to the city. Neuro Optimise sessions can be provided in the comfort of your own home, or in the pool, gym or other suitable community locations.
